Highlight of my week: catching John Roderick’s solo show at the Mercury Lounge, where he brought his powerful voice, poetic storytelling and endearing charisma to one of the best venues in NYC. His closing song, which I’d never caught live before, was 2005’s The Commander Thinks Aloud, a sad telling of the Columbia disaster from the first person perspective—with an incredibly affecting ending that I can’t get out of my head 24 hours later.

From the media capital of the world, another self-indulgent tumblog. Deal with it.
